Isao Tomita

Up to People

Isao Tomita in 1977

Isao Tomita (冨田 勲, Tomita Isao, 22 April 1932 – 5 May 2016), was usually simply called Tomita. He was a Japanese composer, and is regarded as one of the pioneers of electronic music and space music. Tomita was also one of the most famous producers of analog synthesizer arrangements.

I first became familiar with Tomita from his album “Pictures at an Exhibition”, and “Ballet of the Chicks in their Shells.”

I have always wanted to undertake an extended examination of his music, a dissection as it were, of the techniques he used. I always thought I would need at least a year to perform this task before I could have any hope of producing anything even remotely listenable. I have been fascinated for many years with producing synthesizer arrangements of classical music and hymns.
